Pilot Walter Stevens, en route from Chicago to Cleveland on August 11, started a turn when he felt something snap on the right side of the aircraft. The twin-DH whipped over to the right and dove into the ground. Stevens survived but the aircraft was demolished. A few days later, pilot Oscar B. Santa-Maria was cruising at two thousand feet in a twin-DH when something gave way. The left engine began to vibrate, the left wing dropped, and the aircraft spiraled into the ground.
